Frequently asked questions
How is lot size calculated from my risk percentage?
It multiplies your balance by your risk percent to get a dollar risk, then divides that by the loss per lot at your stop distance. The result is the position size that risks exactly what you set if the stop is hit.
What risk percentage should I use per trade?
Many traders keep it to 1-2% of account balance per trade so a losing streak can't do lasting damage. The right figure depends on your strategy and risk tolerance.
Does it work for gold, indices and crypto too?
Yes. It covers 30+ instruments, including metals, indices and crypto, each with the correct contract size and pip value, not just forex pairs.
What's the difference between a lot, a mini lot and a micro lot?
A standard lot is 1.00 (100,000 units on most forex pairs), a mini lot is 0.10 and a micro lot is 0.01. The calculator shows the exact lot and unit count for your inputs.
Why does my broker round the calculated size?
Brokers trade in steps, often 0.01 lots. If your calculated size falls between steps, round down rather than up so you stay within your intended risk.
Does the position size guarantee my risk?
It sets your risk if the stop is respected. Slippage, gaps and requotes can make the actual loss differ, so treat the figure as a close estimate, not a guarantee.
