Frequently asked questions
How is the risk-to-reward ratio calculated?
It measures the distance from your entry to your stop (the risk) against the distance from entry to target (the reward), then expresses it as a ratio such as 1:2.
What is a good risk-to-reward ratio?
Many traders look for at least 1:2 so winners outweigh losers, but the right ratio depends on your win rate. The calculator shows the break-even win rate for your exact setup.
What break-even win rate does my R:R need?
It's the win rate required just to break even at that ratio, roughly 50% at 1:1 and about 33% at 1:2. The calculator computes it from your entry, stop and target.
Does it also give me a position size?
Yes. Enter your account balance and risk, and it suggests the lot size that fits your risk alongside the ratio and dollar amounts.
Does the trade direction change the inputs?
Yes. For a long trade the stop sits below the entry and the target above it; for a short it's the reverse. The calculator validates this so you don't accidentally invert a setup.
Should I always avoid trades below 1:1?
Not necessarily. A high win-rate strategy can be profitable below 1:1, while a low win-rate one may need 1:3 or more. Judge the ratio together with your expected win rate.
